Living in Nigeria, Ada* dreamt of a better future for herself and her two daughters. When a family friend offered her the chance of a new start in the UK, she accepted, hoping for stable employment and a safe place to live. But, when she arrived in the UK, she found herself trapped in a nightmare. Ada was coerced into sex work and trapped in a cycle of debt and exploitation. The trafficker manipulated her, using threats and violence to maintain control and prevent her from seeking help. Ada's situation was dire, and the trauma she endured during this period is something she still struggles to speak about.
Despite the overwhelming odds and the constant fear instilled by her trafficker, Ada managed to escape. The details of her escape are sparse and understandably difficult for her to recount, but what matters most is that she did manage to break free and that her escape marked the beginning of her journey towards safety and recovery.
Ada's path to healing began when she came into contact with the Medailla Trust, an organisation dedicated to supporting victims of modern slavery and human trafficking. The Medailla Trust provided Ada with a safe place to stay, essential medical care, and emotional support.
Our partnership with the Medailla Trust is instrumental in aiding survivors like Ada. We provide essential items such as toiletries, clothing, and other necessities, ensuring that safe houses are equipped to meet the needs of their residents. These donations are not just about physical comfort; they are about restoring dignity and humanity to those who have suffered immensely.
Ada’s stay at the Medailla Trust safe house was supported by the contributions from Goods For Good. The toiletries and clothing we provided helped Ada feel more comfortable and secure, allowing her to focus on her recovery and rebuilding her life.
At Goods For Good, we recognise that addressing the root causes of modern slavery is crucial, but so is supporting those affected by it. Our contributions empower survivors by providing them with the basic necessities they need to regain their independence and confidence. Through our support, organisations like the Medailla Trust offer programs that help survivors develop skills and build their futures.
This is precisely why I set up Goods For Good - to support people like Ada. Our mission is to provide essential resources and aid to charities, enabling them to offer focused and specialised support to those in need. By supporting organisations like the Medailla Trust, we help ensure that survivors of exploitation and trafficking receive the comprehensive care they need to heal and reclaim their futures.
