Providing The Practical Support That Helps Children Thrive

Alongside the cost of uniforms and stationery, many parents are also struggling to afford the everyday toiletries and hygiene products their children need throughout the school year.

Working with our charity partner, Watford Community Housing, Goods For Good helped provide practical support to around 40 families, benefiting approximately 100 children through a series of free Back to School pop-up events. Alongside school uniform, families were able to access coats, nappies, baby items and hygiene packs containing essentials such as shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste and toilet rolls. For many parents, having access to these everyday essentials meant one less impossible choice.

One parent told the team:

"I can't believe how much uniform is. I have three children and it is so expensive, so just not having to worry about the sweatshirts is a great help to me."

Others simply said:

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

"Wow, thank you for this. You do not realise how much you have helped me."

Part of a long-term partnership

Watford Community Housing is one of our trusted UK charity partners, supporting local families experiencing financial hardship.

  • 663kg of practical essentials distributed
  • 16,575kg of useable goods diverted from landfill
  • £24,303 worth of goods provided
  • 2,000+ people supported

From school uniform and stationery to toiletries, clothing and hygiene products, this long-term partnership helps ensure practical support reaches local families quickly, consistently and when it's needed most.

Why this matters

Watford Community Housing's pop-up shop is one example of how practical support can make a difference. It also reflects what we're seeing across our wider charity partner network. Alongside school uniforms and stationery, toiletries and hygiene products have become some of the hardest items for families to afford and charities to source.

Through Schools For Good, we work with trusted charity partners across the UK and overseas to understand the barriers children and young people are facing and respond with the practical support they need most. By providing everyday essentials such as school uniforms, clothing, stationery and toiletries, Schools For Good helps remove barriers to education, enabling children to attend school with confidence and make the most of the opportunities education provides.
