Clothe a child in need

In June 2023 My 1st Years pledged to support Goods For Good by clothing a child in need with every purchase made on their online store. With every item purchased, My 1st Years is giving you the opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life with your purchase and at the same time, provide a unique and creative gift. Whether it’s a monogrammed towel for a new baby, a special gift for a milestone birthday or something bespoke for a christening or baptism, your purchase will be a lasting reminder of a special moment whilst at the same time, a child in need will be clothed.

Each year, 300,000 tonnes of clothes go to landfill in the UK alone, which is equivalent to £140 million worth of clothing items.

There are currently 356million children living in extreme poverty globally. In the UK alone, there are currently 4.2 million children living in deep poverty; that's one in every four children who don't have the vital essentials to survive. This pledge of generosity is will have a significant impact on the lives of the people we support, whilst also going some way to helping bring awareness to the issue of clothing poverty.

What is clothing poverty?

Children going without proper clothing is something we might be more likely to associate with developing countries, however it is a stark reality for a growing number of British children – more than 30% of who live below the poverty line. Clothing poverty describes the situation in which people have very little or nothing to wear on a day-to-day basis. It is a plight affecting thousands of people in the UK, and around the world and yet whilst the cost-of-living crisis has focused attention on energy and food prices, clothing poverty goes largely undocumented and unreported.
