Author and Psychotherapist JA Hind donates proceeds of book ‘Humans in the Extreme' to Goods For Good

Humans in the Extreme is the new book from Hertfordshire based author and psychotherapist, JA Hind. The book, which was released earlier this month, explores aspects of our human nature and what drives us to do what we do.

In her book, Hind takes the reader into a thought-provoking discourse about our obsession with the extreme. The powerful book explores aspects of our human nature and what drives us to do what we do. It looks at our resilience to survive and how we can choose humanity over inhumanity.

Donating 100% of proceeds from the sale of her book to Goods For Good Hind said, “QUOTE”

quote from Jane to follow

Humans in the Extreme is a first of its kind book examining the intriguing and sometimes disturbing relationship with the extreme. It covers all aspects of human behaviour relating to the extreme, in particular it examines the reasons why ordinary people can, and do bad things. Or, in some cases, choose to do nothing to help human suffering.

It’s a very relatable book, particularly in today’s climate, when we only have to look at Russia’s invasion of Ukraine or the atrocities happening in Sudan to see that sadly, large scale inhumanities are happening all over the world. And its atrocities like the war in Ukraine that motivated Founder and CEO, Rosalind Bluestone to set up Goods For Good back in 2014.

Shocked and appalled by the events of 2014, Roz decided to set up Goods For Good in response to the unprecedented world crisis unfolding, which she just couldn’t ignore. Sadly, almost 10 years on, many of the conflicts in places like Sudan, Afghanistan and Ukraine remain unchanged, but during this time, Goods for Good have supported over 4 million vulnerable people who have been affected by war, displacement and poverty. Some of these people are evacuees, refugees and asylum seekers; people who have been affected by modern slavery and human trafficking.

The synergy between the themes in Jane's book and the work Goods For Good do is so relatable. We are reliant on collaborators in human kindness, so we are incredibly grateful to Jane for her generosity.

When asked about the book, Roz said, "Dignity, determination and resilience is the fuel that drives the wonderful, loving and powerful community spirit that is core to our success as charity. It's what enables us to help the most vulnerable in society."

"Through our efforts,  we have seen the transformative power of kindness. We have witnessed the impact that a warm meal and safe place to sleep can have on a person's life. We have seen communities come together to support one another, and we have seen hope and resilience in the face of adversity." She continued, "The synergy between the themes in Jane's book and the work Goods For Good do is so relatable. We are reliant on collaborators in human kindness, so we are incredibly grateful to Jane for her generosity."

About the author

Jane is an accredited member of the BACP and UKRCP and has been a therapist for over twenty years. In her work, she covers all areas of therapy including anxiety, depression, abuse, sexual and domestic violence, psychosexual issues and suicide ideation. Connecting with people from all walks of life who have often experienced the most difficult of circumstances remains an integral part of her work. Her clients have included ex-prison offenders, addicts, paraphiliacs and victims, as well as culprits, of physical and sexual violence. Whilst some of her clinical work has centred on victims and perpetrators of extreme violence, Jane’s fascination to understand the human relationship with extreme, in all its forms, eventually led her to write her book Humans in the Extreme. In addition to her therapy work, Jane has also lectured in counselling at Hertford Regional College and led training workshops for NHS staff and schools.
