Over the last few weeks many of us have been watching the devastating events as they unfold in Afghanistan. It breaks my heart to hear the reports emerging of violent reprisals, a return to the appalling subjugation of women and to witness the distressing images from Kabul, Kandahar, Herat and other provinces of individuals, women and families desperate to escape the rapidly evolving situation.

The tragic situation in Afghanistan is a real-time example of why I set up Goods For Good 7 years ago. Concerned and appalled by what I saw on the news regarding the plight of the refugees and with so many people in the world living in abject poverty without the basics to live, I knew I had to do something. And what drove me then still drives me now.

As the Government announced the new ‘Afghan Citizens’ Resettlement Scheme’ which aims to resettle 5,000 people from Afghanistan in its first year, our small team wasted no time turning our thoughts for these refugees into concrete action. We are now in the process of sorting and packing over 2000 bags of donations so they are ready to be delivered, via our network of charity partners, locally and nationally to those in need.

We’ve had an overwhelming response from our community, keen to find out how they can help us respond to and support the Afghan refugees as they arrive, so we have detailed below the different ways you can help support our work.

It can be difficult to imagine what it must feel like to have nothing but the clothes you stand up in, to not have the money or means to access basics such as shampoo, toothpaste and shower gel, but this is a reality for many of the people we support. Through our For Common Good wish list you can donate the toiletries and hygiene goods we need. We are currently running low on the following items; nappies, baby wipes, shower gel, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, shaving foam and razors. Simply click the link to select the items you wish to donate.

Please donate to our emergency fund today. This special reserve will help us respond quickly to SOS appeals, such as the conflict in Afghanistan. Your donations will help provide the desperately needed funds to cover our operations, so that we're able to deliver what’s needed to those most in need. Without support there is a limit to what we can achieve.

If you are able to spare your time and would like to get involved with our work, helping us deliver a lifeline of essentials to the people and communities we serve, then get in touch today - we urgently need your support and have a number of roles currently available. We've been inundated with donations of second-hand clothes so we are not currently taking donations of clothes. Please be aware we are also not currently taking donations of pre-loved toys or books. We do however need new and unused socks and underwear (men's, women's and children's). If you are able to deliver these items to our facility in Watford please get in touch by emailing the team at
