Growing up in poverty means facing a myriad of challenges that threaten a child’s well-being, education, and future opportunities. In the UK alone, the stark reality of poverty casts a long shadow over the lives of nearly five million children. These children find themselves trapped in a cycle of deprivation, where access to basic necessities and a stable environment are often luxuries.
For millions of children across the UK, poverty permeates every aspect of their lives, leading to severe consequences that have a lasting impact, including education barriers, housing insecurity and social exclusion.
One in six (18%) children in the UK are living in persistent poverty, meaning they have spent at least 3 out of the last 4 years in poverty.

At Goods For Good, our mission is to pave the way for a brighter and more promising future for those in need, recognising that the key to transformation lies in nurturing the potential of children and families living in poverty. We understand the critical importance of providing support to these young lives, which is why our initiatives such as Sport For Good and Prams For Good were set up and designed to address the unique struggles faced by these vulnerable children and their families. In many situations, the challenges these families encounter can be overwhelming, and children often find themselves deprived of the fundamental joys of childhood.
Goods For Good provides children with essential items such as clothing, school supplies and hygiene products, ensuring they have access to the basics they need to thrive. Through our Back To School campaign for example, we're not only meeting immediate needs, we're also sowing the seeds for long-term growth. Because when children have the tools they need, they're better equipped to focus on their studies, engage in social activities, and pursue their aspirations.
Goods For Good understands the value of play and recreation and we believe it is a crucial developmental tool that nurtures cognitive, emotional, and physical well-being. Whether it's providing toys for those children whose families can't afford things like birthday and Christmas presents through our annual Toy Appeal or through things like our Sport For Good initiative, where we enable them to gain access to services and support they wouldn't have been able to access previously, we aim to empower children not only physically, but also emotionally and mentally so they can release stress, build self-confidence, and develop crucial life skills.
Goods For Good also supports parents and caregivers, recognising that their well-being is intrinsically linked to the well-being of the children they care for. The reality for many of the people we support, means they have to make difficult decisions in order to clothe and feed their families, often foregoing other basic essentials such as heating and electricity. By providing basics such as toiletries, clothing and bedding, Goods For Good supports them to take care of themselves and remain focused on their lives.
The struggles faced by children living in poverty are not just their burdens to bear – they are societal challenges that demand our attention and action. It's only through a united effort that we can uplift these young lives, paving the way for a more equitable, just, and compassionate future where every child's potential is realised, regardless of their economic circumstances.
By supplying essentials to families struggling with the cost of living crisis and the complexities of living in poverty, Goods For Good aren't just delivering aid – we're instilling a belief that they matter and are valid, and that a brighter future is within reach. Through our collective efforts, uniting our corporate and charity partners we are nurturing potential and fostering a world where every child has access to the essentials they need to flourish.
As individuals and as a society, we all play a role in breaking the cycle of childhood poverty and uplifting these children to brighter futures. At Goods For Good, we firmly believe that collective efforts can drive monumental change. Here are several ways you can get involved and support our mission:
